Kohl's Cares for Kids® Offers $5 Curious George Books and Plush to Benefit Wolfson
Jacksonville, Florida, October 13, 2008 -- Kohl's Corporation (NYSE:KSS) and Curious George® are monkeying around and helping kids this fall. For a limited time, Kohl's is offering exclusive editions of "Curious George at the Aquarium," "Curious George and the Firefighters," "Curious George Feeds the Animals," and "Merry Christmas Curious George" -- for only $5 each. Exclusive coordinating plush toys are also available for $5 each. Kohl's will donate 100 percent of the net profits to children's health and educational opportunities, including Safe Kids Northeast Florida at Wolfson Children's Hospital.
This little monkey with a curiosity for learning first appeared on bookshelves in 1941 and remains a kids' favorite today. Created by H.A. and Margret Rey, these famed books have sold more than 40 million copies and captured the hearts and minds of readers worldwide. These classic story books and plush make great gifts for the holidays and are only available at Kohl's through December.
The stories are a perfect match for Kohl's Cares for Kids®, which has helped hospitals nationwide accomplish great things. Over the past three years, Kohl's Cares for Kids® has given more than $125,000 to support Safe Kids Northeast Florida. The local chapter of Safe Kids Worldwide works to prevent accidental injuries in children under 15 through its child passenger safety, water safety, bike safety and other educational programs for children and adults.
"Accidental injuries are the leading killer of children. Wolfson Children's Hospital appreciates Kohl's generous support of Safe Kids' efforts to reach our Northeast Florida community with the message and the tools that prevent these injuries," says Larry Freeman, administrator of Wolfson Children's Hospital.
Nationally, Kohl's Cares for Kids® benefits more than 150 hospitals. From the program's inception in 2000, Kohl's has turned $5 books and plush toys into more than $102 million for children's initiatives nationwide while providing books at a great value for millions of eager readers. Exclusive editions of "Curious George at the Aquarium," "Curious George and the Firefighters," "Curious George Feeds the Animals," and "Merry Christmas Curious George" and coordinating plush toys are available in stores and online at www.kohls.com.
In addition to the merchandise program, Kohl's Cares for Kids features the Kohl's Kids Who Care® Scholarship Program, which recognized young volunteers with more than $300,000 in scholarships and prizes this year; the A-Team Program, which encourages associate volunteerism and provided more than $3.2 million in grants to youth-focused nonprofit organizations in 2007 alone; and fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving organizations.
