Patrons of the Hearts will host its first Bridges 5K Run/Walk this Saturday, November 6, beginning at 8 am. The race will begin and end at the Yates Riverside YMCA, 221 Riverside Avenue. The route is probably one of the most enjoyable in Jacksonville, crossing the Acosta and Main Street bridges.
Also starting at the Yates YMCA, a Kids Fun Run will begin at 9 am (one for ages 3 and under, one for ages 4-6). All finishers of the Fun Run will receive a medal.
After the race, Patrons will host a celebration complete with kids’ activities and entertainment by the What the Funk band.
Patrons of the Hearts is a program benefiting the Pediatric Cardiovascular Services at Wolfson Children's Hospital. All funds are directed through the Baptist Health Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization, responsible for managing the endowment to benefit this program. Since Patrons of the Hearts is an official program of the Baptist Health Foundation, all charitable donations to it are tax deductible.
To date, Patrons has brought nearly 50 international children with congenital heart disease to Jacksonville for life-saving heart care and surgery at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Patrons has raised more than $500,000 toward an endowment that will allow the organization to bring children to Jacksonville for heart care in perpetuity. This year, the endowment goal was raised to $1 million to allow Patrons to bring 10 children a year for help.
