Tuesday, October 7, 2008 - Michael Beschloss, Presidential historian
Thursday, November 6, 2008 - Dennis Miller, comedian and TV host
Saturday, January 17, 2009 - A Conversation with Ron Howard and Charlie Rose
Tuesday, February 3, 2009 - A Roundtable of David Gergen, Jim Lehrer and George Stephanopoulos
All lectures are held in the Florida Theatre at 7 pm.
Beschloss is author of Presidential Courage: Brave Leaders and How They Changed America 1789-1989. At the October 7 lecture, he will answer the question, "What makes a great U.S. President?"
Miller parlayed his stint on "Saturday Night Live" into a string of talk shows. During its nine-year run on HBO, "Dennis Miller Live" won five Emmys.
Howard has won two Oscars as a director and is busy in post-production for the film adaptation of Frost/Nixon. Rose, an Emmy-winning journalist, has hosted the "Charlie Rose Show" five times a week since the program was syndicated in 1993.
Gergen has served as a presidential advisor to Presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton; is editor-at-large for US News & World Report and is a senior political analyst for CNN. Lehrer has been at PBS since 1972. He and Robert MacNeil began the first 60-minute evening newscast, which Lehrer continues to host. Stephanopoulos, the chief Washington correspondent for ABC News and anchor of his own TV program, wrote All Too Human, a New York Times bestseller.
The Florida Forum is an annual speaker series begun in 1992, produced by The Women's Board of Wolfson Children's Hospital. It is a benefit which funds select areas and programs to enhance this pediatric health care facility. Each Florida Forum season features high-profile personalities who address informative and entertaining topics. Among the past 47 distinguished speakers, Florida Forum has hosted President and Mrs. George H. W. Bush, Bill Cosby, Katie Couric, Rudy Giuliani, Senator John Glenn, Dr. Henry Kissinger, Queen Noor of Jordan, Secretary of State Colin Powell, General Norman Schwarzkopf, and former Prime Minister of Great Britain Margaret Thatcher.
