“Walk to Remember” helps families memorialize babies who have passed away

The 24th annual “Walk to Remember” will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2014, for families who have experienced the loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth, ectopic pregnancy or newborn death. This year, organizers have chosen to make the event a gathering on the lawn by the river instead of a walk so participants have more time to visit, decorate banners and butterfly pins with their baby’s name, and participate in a butterfly release.

The event’s new location will be on the north lawn of the Aetna Building at 841 Prudential Drive, across the street from Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville. Beginning at 2pm, the event is free and open to the public but donations will be accepted for the butterflies, remembrance banners and pins. Face painting for kids and music by DJ Tony Hoffman will also be included, and remembrance bracelets will be available for purchase for a dollar. Please bring your own water (food is not permitted) lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, and family photos to make your banner.

To register for the event and to reserve a butterfly and a pin, contact Chaplain Linda Rosengren, Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville and Wolfson Children’s Hospital at 202.2240 or email her at linda.rosengren@bmcjax.com. This event is jointly sponsored between Baptist Health, Wolfson Children’s Hospital, St. Vincent’s Healthcare and Memorial Hospital.
