Adult Congenital Heart Program

More than 1 million adults are living with congenital heart disease; some do not even know they have a heart defect because they have never been diagnosed. Thanks to advances in heart care and developing technologies, nearly every form of congenital heart disease in adults can be treated or managed with the expectation of an improved outcome.

Comprehensive Heart Care for Adults with CHD

Wolfson Children’s Hospital, in collaboration with the University of Florida College of Medicine -- Jacksonville and the UF College of Medicine in Gainesville, offers an Adult Congenital Heart Program that provides comprehensive multidisciplinary care for adults diagnosed with congenital heart disease.

The UF Congenital Heart Center, C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry Heart Center at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, and the UF Pediatric Cardiovascular Center offers this program to bring together the expertise required to diagnose and treat complex heart defects, offering specialized outpatient care for conditions up to the highest level of inpatient care, including heart transplantation.

The program’s team is a unique collaboration of congenital cardiologists, congenital cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiac anesthesiologists, critical care physicians and others who provide an individualized treatment plan for each adult patient, based on his or her overall health status and other existing health conditions. Congenital heart specialists have unique expertise in treating congenital heart disease in people of all ages.
