Heart Surgery
Board-certified cardiovascular surgeons with the Children's Heart Center perform a full range of surgeries for infants, children and adults, from simple to highly complex. We provide a full range of open-heart, minimally invasive and video-assisted surgeries. Each year, our surgeons perform nearly 200 heart surgeries, which is on the increase due to the number of patients coming from outside of Northeast Florida. Our program is also one of the safest, with a heart surgical mortality rate that has averaged approximately two percent in recent years, which is about half of what it is at many major programs in the country.
We have clinical experience with a variety of heart defects, including:
-
Atrial septal defects
-
Ventricular septal defects
-
Hypoplastic left heart syndrome
-
Transposition of the great arteries
-
Aortic and mitral valve disease, including the Ross operation
-

-
