The resident will be introduced to and receive experiences in all aspects of Pharmacy Administration including Budgeting, Human Resources issues, Committee responsibilities, inter and intra departmental relationships, and extra-hospital responsibilities. As part of this experience the resident will serve as chief resident.
Ambulatory care will be provided as a longitudinal experience through the pulmonology clinic at Nemours Children's Clinic. The resident will follow cystic fibrosis patients for three months.
The resident will be given opportunities to provide education to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students. At a minimum each resident will provide one Pharmacy Grand Rounds, one CE for pharmacy technicians, and five journal clubs presented to the pharmacy department. They will also assist with precepting pharmacy students.
The combined administration and drug information longitudinal rotation allows the resident to work on quality improvement, process improvement adverse event reporting and other projects that require more time than what can be accomplished in the one month experiences.
Each resident must complete a research project. This learning experience will guide the resident through project development, proposal writing, IRB submission, data collection, data analysis and presentation of the project to the hospital and the residency conference. A final manuscript suitable for publication is required. A timeline/guideline is provided to each resident. A mentor will guide the resident throughout the year.
This experience provides the resident experience covering the central pharmacy on the weekend and deployed in the evening. The resident will service as the pharmacist for their assigned area. Weekend coverage may include the IV room as well as the distribution processes for both the adult and children’s hospital. Evening coverage is deployed for the children’s hospital.
