Computed Tomography

Computed Tomography (CT) uses special equipment that combines several X-ray images taken from different angles to provide detailed pictures of bones, soft tissues, organs and blood vessels inside your child’s body. Special software combines these images into cross-sectional views or slices. These scans provide much more detail than regular X-rays, which helps with both diagnosis and treatment. We offer pediatric CT appointments at all four of our convenient locations.

Contrasted Exams

If the study ordered by the physician requires oral contrast, the patient will arrive 2 hours prior to the study to drink a special contrast that helps show the intestinal tract.

If the study requires IV contrast, the patient will need to not have anything to eat or drink 4 hours prior to the study.

If your child is having sedation or anesthesia for a CT scan, you will be contacted with additional information.

The Wolfson Children’s Hospital Computer Tomography Department is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Accreditation by the ACR demonstrates a commitment to quality care and patient safety, setting Wolfson Children’s apart from other radiology imaging centers.
