Sports and Orthopedic Program 

Our Sports and Orthopedic Program provides family-centered, pediatric rehabilitative care. The focus is on the health and treatment of middle and high school age children who have orthopedic conditions and injuries. The preteen and teenage patients work exclusively with pediatric trained occupational and physical therapists. Individual treatment plans, linked to stage of maturity and style of learning, are carried out in an upbeat environment in the company of peers. Family members, a major source of comfort and support, are encouraged to provide input, and are kept abreast of the processes that aid the child in recovering. "Homework" and frequent meetings between the patient, family and staff are integral components of successful outpatient treatment.

The goals of the Sports and Orthopedic Program include:

  • Safely returning young athletes to the sport or activity of their choice
  • Educating the patient and family on his or her specific condition
  • Preventing further injury or re-injury

The following services are available at any of the Wolfson Children's Rehabilitation's outpatient sites:

  • Individualized occupational and physical therapy assessments
  • Comprehensive therapy care plans
  • Coordination of services with other specialists
  • Ongoing family and patient instruction

Assessment and treatment are provided for the following conditions and injuries:

  • All post-surgical orthopedic conditions
  • Patellar pain and subluxation
  • Ligamentous strains or tears
  • Meniscal tears
  • Overuse injuries
  • Musculoskeletal conditions
  • Fractures
  • Back pain and scoliosis
  • Hand injuries or surgeries
  • Tendonitis
  • Joint pain (ankle, knee, shoulder, back)
  • Leg length discrepancies
  • Limb salvage surgeries
  • Splinting clinic
  • Orthotic fitting/recommendation
  • Wheelchair clinic
  • Assessment for adaptive equipment

Common injuries include: ankle sprains and fractures, knee pain or surgery, back pain, joint laxity and shoulder injuries.
