As part of the 2010 Fed Ex Air & Ground NFL Player of the Week awards, Safe Kids coalitions in markets with NFL teams were eligible to win $2,000 prizes each week to fund pedestrian safety initiatives in their communities. The winnings stemmed from online fan voting for the top Air & Ground NFL players each week. Jacksonville Jaguar running back Maurice Jones-Drew was selected twice during the season as the Ground Player of the Week, resulting in a total $4,000 grant awarded to Safe Kids Northeast Florida, led by Wolfson Children’s Hospital. The funds were used to produce a video segment about the use of reflectors and reflective materials to improve visibility of children walking or riding bikes to school, waiting at bus stops and playing outdoors. We wish to extend our thanks to Fed Ex and to Maurice Jones-Drew for their contributions to the safety of children in Northeast Florida!
